I am excited to see many of the native birds because some of their feathers are really fascinating. The other reason is because the activities there look fun!

The History of Kawau Island

Kawau Island is one of the largest islands in the Hauraki Gulf. Kawau was named after the Kawaupaka. Did you know Kawau is one of the most beautiful islands of the Hauraki Gulf and one of the richest in history. Kawau Island was purchased by Sir George Grey in 1862. Sir George Grey had an interest in the natural sciences, and was an enthusiastic collector of plants and animals from around the world. At the time Sir George Grey was serving his second term as governor.
